What motivation is and how to develop it

· 1 min read

English editorial adaptation of the original Romanian article.

Understanding your reason

Motivation is the reason behind a goal. If you do not know why you want something, ask whether the goal is truly yours or reflects pressure from other people. Consider whether reaching it would bring satisfaction, whether you feel connected to it and how you picture the outcome.

Internal and external motivation

The article distinguishes motivation that comes from personal values and resources from motivation driven by external circumstances. Internal motivation can grow when we identify our potential, try manageable challenges and experience the satisfaction of progress.

Keeping motivation alive

Break large goals into smaller steps. Make completing what you begin part of the goal itself. Spend time with people whose experience can encourage you. Reduce postponement, be patient and continue taking action. Reading and learning about the subject can sustain interest, while visualising the result can remind you why it matters.

From desire to a plan

The original text uses a change in lifestyle as an example: motivation needs organisation and a plan that can be followed over time. A clear vision, realistic steps and repeated action help turn a wish into progress. Goals that depend entirely on factors outside your control may be harder to sustain, so reconnect regularly with your own reasons and choices.
